Salam Alaykom,
Once again, it has been a while since my last post but this one comes from the staffroom of my new workplace. I'm at a facility that caters for children aged 16+ that have left school with very little qualifications, one that is designed to help them achieve what little they can before they need to get into work.
Based on my experience, so far of only two weeks.. I have come to find that there really is an art to teaching that I never really appreciated before, regardless of how much time I have spent teaching at other places. Here I have come to realise that not everyone is at the same ability educationally, despite the similarity in their age groups. Many of these students have a very short attention span and it takes patience and effort to encourage them to get back into it. Sometimes it's a pat on the back (literally!) or to tell them tbat they're a 'Don' after finishing their work.. anything that helps.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have previously taken it for granted the efforts teachers and other teaching staff. It really is a skill that needs commending on..
Special thanks to all those teachers that have inspired me to take on this placement.. They know who they are.
