Ramadhan Kareem!

After several days of killer sunshine, the weather forecast was set to ruin our plans for an outdoors event. As I stood outside, dripping with water from the relentless rainfall, I saw a young man walking across the opposite street.

He was young, no older than twenty years old. He too was soaked and was constantly lifting his trousers, fashionably lowered to expose his shorts underneath.

He saw me across the road and simply stopped, turning towards me.

"Hey, when is your Ramadhan thing starting?"

Perplexed, and slightly thrown off with the question, I replied quickly.

"It's tomorrow."

"Oh wow. Good luck!"

The guy walked off and I knew I would probably never see him again but his small gesture brought a smile to my face. Truth be told, I probably wouldn't have pegged him to have known what Ramadhan was; he reminded me that one should never assume what people would say or do.

He also reminded me that small gestures of kindness were of the nicest things you could receive, and on that note, Ramadhan Kareem to all those observing it. And for those who aren't, may the blessings of this month reach you and bring peace and happiness to your hearts, amen.
